Building Cooperation In Contested Territories
UvAMUN delegates are tasked with tackling some of the world's most complex challenges; this year: building cooperation in contested territories. UvAMUN 2023’s committees focus on a variety of contested territories, from Afghanistan's new governance under the Taliban, to the Lebanese Civil War, to the Sahel region in West Africa plagued by violence and instability. Delegates will also need to address the unprecedented challenges of megacities, such as Lagos, Nigeria, and the impact of conflict and political instability on food security, including the ongoing crisis in the Middle East due to the Russian aggression in Ukraine that has affected wheat stocks. Throughout all these committees, delegates will need to work together to identify the root causes of conflict, promote dialogue and cooperation between different groups, and develop strategies to promote sustainable peace and development. The role of international actors, such as the UN and regional organizations, in building cooperation in these contested territories will also be a critical aspect of the discussions.
